Manchester is Red: Carrick Era Begins with Derby Delight

The Michael Carrick era at Manchester United couldn’t have started in more spectacular fashion. In his first game since taking over as head coach following Ruben Amorim’s departure, Carrick guided the Red Devils to a dominant 2–0 victory over rivals Manchester City, dealing a massive blow to the Citizens’ title hopes.

Match: Manchester United 2–0 Manchester City

Old Trafford was electric as United played with a level of intensity and tactical discipline that has been the hallmark of Carrick’s coaching style. Despite having three goals ruled out for offside and hitting the woodwork twice, United’s persistence finally paid off in the second half.

Mbeumo Makes His Mark: Returning from AFCON, Bryan Mbeumo sent the Stretford End into a frenzy in the 65th minute. After Harry Maguire cleared a City free-kick, Mbeumo sparked a lightning counter-attack, exchanged passes with Bruno Fernandes, and slotted home his 8th goal of the season.

Dorgu Seals It: Young star Patrick Dorgu justified his start by doubling the lead in the 76th minute. He ghosted past Rico Lewis to cushion an inch-perfect Matheus Cunha cross into the net, scoring his second goal for the club.
Defensive Solidity: Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez put in a gargantuan shift, while young goalkeeper Senne Lammens and the backline ensured City finished the match with zero shots on target.

The Carrick Effect
Michael Carrick’s return to the touchline brought an immediate tactical shift. United looked “streetwise,” allowing City the lion’s share of possession but looking far more lethal whenever they won the ball back. The win marks a dream debut for the former midfielder, who has been appointed to lead the club until the end of the season.
