FC Bayern Munich chief fires shot at FC Barcelona amid Harry Kane transfer rumours
Fresh transfer speculation surrounding Harry Kane and Barcelona has sparked a strong response from Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß, who bluntly dismissed the idea of the English striker moving to Spain.
Speaking after Bayern’s dominant DFB-Pokal final victory over Stuttgart, Hoeneß addressed recent reports linking Kane with Barcelona and made his position crystal clear.
“FC Bayern is a buying club, not a selling club and Barcelona have no money anyway.”
The comments quickly spread across European football media after being reported by multiple outlets following Bayern’s cup triumph.
Kane continues historic Bayern run
The timing of Hoeneß’s statement came after another sensational performance from Harry Kane. The England captain scored a hat-trick in Bayern’s 3-0 win in the DFB-Pokal final, further cementing what has already been an extraordinary season in Germany.
Kane has become the centerpiece of Bayern’s attack since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. Reports indicate he finished the season with an astonishing 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions.
Hoeneß even described Kane as “the best transfer we’ve ever made,” a massive statement considering Bayern’s long history of world-class signings.
Why Barcelona were linked with Kane
The speculation surrounding Barcelona largely emerged because Kane has yet to officially extend his current Bayern contract beyond 2027. That uncertainty naturally attracted rumours involving Europe’s elite clubs, especially Barcelona, who are believed to be searching for a long-term attacking solution as the club plans for the future.
However, Hoeneß’s remarks underline Bayern’s confidence in keeping their star striker. Kane himself also appeared relaxed about the situation, insisting there is “no panic” regarding contract talks and reaffirming how much he enjoys life in Munich.
Financial reality behind the comments
Hoeneß’s “no money” remark was clearly aimed at Barcelona’s widely discussed financial struggles over recent years. Despite improvements under club president Joan Laporta, Barcelona have continued to battle salary cap restrictions, registration issues, and financial restructuring challenges.
The Catalan giants have still managed to remain competitive in the transfer market, but signing a player of Kane’s stature likely requiring a huge transfer fee and elite wages would be extremely difficult financially.
Bayern sending a message to Europe
Beyond Barcelona, Bayern’s message appears directed at the entire European market: Harry Kane is untouchable.
The German champions view Kane not only as their leading striker, but also as a global figure and leader inside the dressing room. Earlier this year, Hoeneß even claimed Bayern would now value Kane at around €150 million because of his impact on and off the pitch.
With Bayern winning trophies again and Kane thriving in Germany, all signs currently point toward the England captain remaining at the Allianz Arena for the foreseeable future.
