Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich: From Doubt to Dominance 🇧🇪🔴
When Vincent Kompany was appointed Bayern Munich head coach in May 2024, it was viewed by many as a bold gamble.
The former Manchester City and Belgium captain had limited experience managing at the very top level, and Bayern were coming off a trophyless 2023/24 campaign.
Two years later, that gamble looks like one of the best decisions Bayern have made in recent years.
🏆 Two Bundesliga titles in two seasons
Kompany has won the Bundesliga in both of his first two seasons in charge of Bayern Munich.
In his debut campaign, Bayern finished as champions with 23 wins, seven draws and just two defeats after 32 matches, eventually securing the title with two games remaining.
The 2025/26 campaign was even more impressive.
Bayern finished the season with 28 wins, five draws and just one defeat, collecting 89 points and scoring a remarkable 122 goals.
That made Bayern champions by a massive 16-point margin over Borussia Dortmund.
Kompany also became only the fourth coach in Bundesliga history to win the league title in each of his first two seasons, joining Ernst Happel, Pep Guardiola and Hansi Flick.
📊 The numbers behind Kompany’s Bayern
By the time Bayern secured the 2025/26 Bundesliga title, Kompany had recorded 50 Bundesliga victories in just 64 matches.
Only Pep Guardiola reached 50 Bundesliga wins faster, doing so in 61 matches.
Even more remarkable is Bayern’s attacking output under the Belgian.
Across those 64 Bundesliga matches, Bayern had scored 208 goals, averaging more than 3.2 goals per game the highest scoring rate recorded by any coach in Bundesliga history.
That’s quite a statistic for a manager whose playing career was built around defending.
🏆 The trophies are beginning to pile up
Kompany’s Bayern have already established a strong trophy cabinet.
His honours in Munich include:
– 🏆 Bundesliga — 2024/25
– 🏆 Bundesliga — 2025/26
– 🏆 DFB-Pokal — 2025/26
– 🏆 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup — 2025
– 🏆 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup — 2026
The latest success came on August 22, 2026, when Bayern defeated Borussia Dortmund 2–1 to win the German Supercup.
Michael Olise scored and assisted, while new signing Nathaniel Brown also found the net on his competitive debut.
🔥 A Bayern side built to attack
Perhaps the biggest change under Kompany has been Bayern’s attacking identity.
His team plays with intensity, possession, aggressive pressing and a willingness to commit numbers forward.
The results have been spectacular.
Bayern’s 122 Bundesliga goals in 2025/26 broke their own previous club record of 101 goals, highlighting just how devastating the team became going forward.
Harry Kane was central to that success, while Michael Olise, Luis Díaz and Bayern’s supporting cast provided another dimension to the attack.
UEFA’s analysis of Bayern’s tactical setup highlighted Kompany’s use of a 4-2-3-1 structure that can change depending on the opposition, allowing players such as Joshua Kimmich and Kane to influence the game while giving Olise and Díaz freedom in wide areas.
🌍 What about the Champions League?
This is where Kompany’s Bayern still have unfinished business.
His first Champions League campaign ended in the quarter-finals.
In 2025/26, Bayern went one step further, reaching the semi-finals, before being eliminated by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.
So while Kompany has restored Bayern’s domestic dominance, the Champions League remains the major challenge.
And that is exactly where the pressure at Bayern Munich becomes different.
Winning the Bundesliga is expected.
Winning the DFB-Pokal is expected.
But Bayern want to win Europe.
👑 From gamble to proven winner
Kompany’s Bayern record tells a clear story.
He arrived with questions surrounding his appointment. He has answered many of them with trophies, consistency and attacking football.
Two Bundesliga titles in two seasons.
A domestic double.
Multiple Supercups.
A Bundesliga scoring record.
50 league victories in just 64 matches.
And Bayern are already starting the 2026/27 season with another trophy after defeating Dortmund in the Supercup.
The Belgian has gone from being regarded as a risky appointment to becoming one of the most successful young managers in European football.
But perhaps the biggest test is still ahead.
Can Vincent Kompany take Bayern Munich back to the top of Europe?
If his first two seasons are anything to go by, Bayern fans have plenty of reasons to believe he can.
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern era is no longer a project. It’s becoming a dynasty. 🔴🏆
