Gernot Rohr Criticises Argentina After Messi Farewell ๐ง๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ท
Benin head coach Gernot Rohr has expressed his disappointment over what happened after Beninโs 3โ0 defeat to Argentina in Buenos Aires, particularly regarding the treatment of his team following the match.
Rohr revealed that his players were hoping for the opportunity to meet Lionel Messi and the Argentine players, take photographs and possibly exchange shirts after what was a memorable occasion for Benin.
However, according to the German coach, none of that happened.
โThe only negative is that the Argentine players gave us nothing. Not a photo with Messi, not even shirts. They did not even let us into the tunnel and the dressing room.
โSecurity refused to let us in. We tried everything, but got nowhere.โ
For Benin, playing against Argentina in Buenos Aires was already a major occasion. Facing one of the worldโs biggest football nations โ and sharing the pitch with Messi โ created an experience that many of the players may remember for the rest of their careers.
However, Rohr feels the experience could have been even more special if his players had been given the opportunity to interact with their Argentine counterparts after the final whistle.
The 3โ0 defeat was obviously disappointing for Benin on the footballing side, but the post-match experience appears to have left an even bigger impression on the coaching staff.
While security protocols can often restrict access to dressing rooms and player areas, Rohrโs comments have sparked a wider debate among football fans.
๐ค Do you think Argentinaโs players and federation could have done more for Benin after the match?
