Prayers Up for Taiwo Awoniyi After Emergency Surgery and Induced Coma

Heartbreaking news has emerged from England as Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been placed in an induced coma following emergency abdominal surgery.

The 27-year-old forward, who plays for Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League, sustained the injury during a 2-2 draw against Leicester City on May 11. Awoniyi collided forcefully with the goalpost while trying to convert a cross. Despite appearing in discomfort, he completed the match.

Unfortunately, complications developed after the game, and he was hospitalized the following evening. Doctors performed emergency surgery, but due to the complexity of the procedure and the severity of his condition, he was placed in an induced coma to aid his recovery.

Nottingham Forest officials, including manager Nuno Espírito Santo and owner Evangelos Marinakis, have expressed deep concern and support for the player. There has also been internal tension regarding why Awoniyi was not immediately substituted after the collision, sparking a review of the club’s medical decision-making.

As of today, May 13, Awoniyi remains in a medically induced coma under close observation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Taiwo, his family, and his teammates during this critical time. The football world stands united in wishing him a safe and full recovery.
