Mason Greenwood Requests to Switch Allegiance to Jamaica

English FA chief executive Mark Bullingham has confirmed that Mason Greenwood has formally requested to switch his international allegiance to Jamaica.

The 22-year-old forward, who last played for England in 2020, has been absent from the national team setup for several years. Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe from Manchester United and has been rebuilding his career in Spain.

Speaking to The Athletic FC, Bullingham acknowledged Greenwood’s request but did not provide further details on the process or England’s stance on the matter. If FIFA approves the switch, Greenwood could represent Jamaica in future international competitions, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

This decision comes after England manager Gareth Southgate excluded Greenwood from his plans despite his promising start at the senior level. Jamaica, on the other hand, has been actively recruiting players of Jamaican descent to strengthen their squad.
