Arsenal 3-0 Sunderland

Arsenal took another massive step toward their first Premier League title in 22 years with a clinical 3-0 victory over Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium. The win moves the Gunners nine points clear at the top of the table, piling the pressure on chasing Manchester City.

Match Summary

While the final scoreline suggests a comfortable afternoon, Sunderland’s disciplined “low block” frustrated the league leaders for much of the first half. It took a moment of individual brilliance to break the deadlock just before the interval.

Martin Zubimendi ignited the Emirates in the 42nd minute, unleashing a trademark low drive from outside the box that zipped off the wet turf and in off the post.

In the second half, Mikel Arteta turned to his bench, and it paid off instantly. Viktor Gyökeres, coming on for Gabriel Jesus, secured the points with a clinical brace. His first came in the 66th minute after fine work from Kai Havertz, and he added a third deep in stoppage time, sliding home from a Gabriel Martinelli cross to put the result beyond doubt.

The Title Race Heat Map

With this victory, Arsenal are now nine points clear of Manchester City, who face a daunting trip to Anfield tomorrow. For Sunderland, the defeat is a blow to their European ambitions, but they remain a respectable 8th in their first season back in the top flight.
