Gabriel Jesus Opens Up on His Move: “I Went Through Hell Under Pep”

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has shed light on the reasons behind his move away from Manchester City, revealing how his time under Pep Guardiola left him frustrated and uncertain about his future.

In a candid statement, the Brazilian admitted that he struggled to find consistent playing time at City and felt sidelined in favor of other players — even midfielders being deployed ahead of him in attack.

> “I don’t want to undergo the same problem I went through with my former manager, Pep,” Jesus said. “I went through hell. My position was taken by someone else, and I could be benched every game. Sometimes it was better for Pep to play a midfielder as a striker, and that’s when I realized I had no place in that team.”

The 28-year-old went on to explain that his decision to leave was driven by a desire for peace of mind and regular football time.

> “I decided to leave and play where my heart was at peace, because at my age, I needed to play,” he continued. “Now, everyone can see the situation at the Emirates. I just want to play — nothing else — about Arteta.”

Gabriel Jesus joined Arsenal in 2022 and was a key part of Mikel Arteta’s rebuild, bringing experience, energy, and leadership to the squad. However, with new attacking options emerging at the Emirates, the forward’s playing time has once again become a topic of discussion among fans and pundits.

Despite the challenges, Jesus insists his main goal remains the same — to play football and contribute wherever he is trusted.
