Manchester United Make Contact Over Alejandro Balde as Left-Back Search Intensifies
Manchester United have stepped up their search for a new left-back, with Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde emerging as a serious option.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United have held calls with Balde’s camp over the last few days to understand whether the 22-year-old could leave Barcelona and, crucially, what the conditions of a potential deal would be.
The move comes as United make strengthening the left-back position a priority. The club have been pursuing Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, but with that option proving difficult, Balde has become an alternative target.
Balde happy at Barcelona
Despite United’s interest, a deal is far from straightforward.
Balde remains happy at Barcelona and previously made his position clear, saying he wanted to remain at the Catalan club and continue his development there. Romano also reiterated that the player is currently content at Barça.
The Spanish international is a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy and has established himself as one of the club’s most talented young full-backs. His explosive pace, attacking ability and capacity to cover the entire left flank make him an attractive option for United.
Why Manchester United want him ?
United are looking for greater competition and long-term quality at left-back, with Luke Shaw’s fitness record and Patrick Dorgu’s development making the position an area the club could strengthen.
Balde would offer a modern attacking profile: pace in transition, aggressive overlapping runs and the ability to contribute from wide areas. His age also fits the club’s broader strategy of building a younger squad.
Earlier reports had already linked United with Balde, with previous estimates suggesting Barcelona could demand a significant fee for the defender. However, no agreement has been reached and the exact conditions of a possible transfer remain unclear.
No agreement yet !
For now, United’s approach should be viewed as exploratory rather than a completed negotiation.
The immediate objective appears to be determining whether Balde is genuinely available and whether the financial and sporting conditions could make a transfer possible.
With the transfer window approaching its final stages, Manchester United could now face an important decision: continue pursuing their preferred targets or make a serious attempt to convince one of Barcelona’s academy graduates to leave Camp Nou.
One thing is clear Alejandro Balde is firmly on Manchester United’s radar, but getting him to Old Trafford could prove much harder than making the initial call.
