Palmeiras’ Luighi in Tears After Racist Chants vs. Cerro Porteño
Football should be a sport of unity, respect, and fair play. Unfortunately, Palmeiras’ young talent Luighi was left in tears after suffering racist abuse during the match against Cerro Porteño.
Instead of being asked about the horrific incident, a reporter questioned him about the game. Frustrated and emotional, Luighi responded:
“Are you serious right now? You’re not going to ask me about the act of racism towards me? Seriously? Until when will we go through this? Until when?”
“What they did to me today is a CRIME.”
“You’re really gonna ask me about the game? What will CONMEBOL do about this? The Federation? You were not going to ask me about this but what they did to me was a crime!”
“We’re academy players, we’re still learning and then this happens…”
It is outrageous that in 2025, racism still stains the beautiful game. Incidents like this should never be ignored or downplayed. Football authorities, including CONMEBOL, must take immediate action to ensure that such hate has no place in the sport.
✊🏾 We stand with Luighi! No to Racism! ⚽🚫
