Super Eagles’ Biggest Problem Revealed: Lack of Midfield Creativity – Fatai Amoo

Former Flying Eagles coach, Fatai Amoo, has pinpointed the Super Eagles’ biggest problem under interim manager Augustine Eguavoen: midfield creativity. Amoo believes the team lacks a playmaker who can unlock defenses and create scoring opportunities.

Midfield Conundrum

“Our defence has some stability, but our biggest problem is the midfield in terms of creativity,” Amoo told Brila FM. “People will keep asking for another Jay-Jay Okocha because that is what we miss now.”

Solution Needed

Amoo suggests the team requires a creative midfielder, akin to:

  • Cole Palmer
  • Jude Bellingham
  • Martin Ødegaard

Impact on Strikers

The lack of midfield creativity affected Victor Boniface’s performance against Libya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. “Boniface couldn’t operate… How many opportunities were created for him? How many through passes were played in his path?” Amoo questioned.

Potential Solution

Utilizing players with dribbling abilities, like Chidera Ejuke, in different positions could improve the team’s overall performance.
