Senegal Fight to Reclaim AFCON 2025 Crown as CAS Hears Appeal
Senegal’s battle to recover their Africa Cup of Nations title has reached a crucial stage, with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) hearing their appeal in Lausanne, Switzerland. 🏆🇸🇳
The controversy began after Senegal defeated hosts Morocco 1–0 after extra time in the AFCON 2025 final on January 18, 2026. Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal, seemingly securing another major international triumph for the Teranga Lions.
However, the celebrations took a dramatic turn when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) overturned the result in March, ruling that Senegal had forfeited the final after several players temporarily left the pitch in protest over a late penalty awarded to Morocco.
CAF subsequently recorded the match as a 3–0 victory for Morocco, declaring the Atlas Lions champions of Africa. 🇲🇦
⚖️ Senegal Take Their Fight to CAS
Refusing to accept the decision, the Senegalese Football Federation appealed to CAS, seeking to overturn CAF’s ruling and have Senegal officially reinstated as AFCON champions.
The hearing took place on October 8, 2026, behind closed doors at CAS headquarters in Lausanne. The court has indicated that its final decision will come at a later date, with a ruling expected within days. <Cite refs={[“turn293583news24”,“turn293583search1”]}/>
🏆 Who Will Be Crowned Champions?
The case has become one of the most controversial episodes in recent African football history, raising important questions about tournament regulations, player conduct and the authority of football’s governing bodies.
Senegal want their on-field victory restored, while Morocco currently hold the title under CAF’s decision. The CAS verdict will determine whether that decision stands or Senegal regain their crown.
Will Senegal reclaim the AFCON trophy, or will Morocco remain champions of Africa? 👀🔥
